REVIEW: Danner Acadia 22500

If you are a law enforcement officer who is required, or elects, to wear boots on a regular basis, you know that although your SOP may simply require them to be “black,” there is more to a good pair of footwear than their color. You need something that is equally at home while standing post as when chasing a suspect, able to be shined when necessary and beat hard when needed and comfortable to wear, day in and day out, regardless of the weather. You need the Danner Acadia.

Danner is one of America’s oldest and most well known boot makers and they did not get to where they are without producing quality products capable of withstanding everything you can throw at them. This is the tradition on which the Acadia was built, and they do not disappoint. From the state of the art and instantly recognizable outsoles to the lace to toe uppers, these boots will provide you with the perfect combination of stability, comfort and support to keep you going long after the clock says it is time to quit.

Physical Description

The Acadia comes standard with 8” nylon uppers matched to a combination of leather and nylon foot bed, sewn to a heavy lug Vibram Kletterlift outsole and Gore-Tex/Thinsulate liner. This provides you with a heavy duty, abrasive resistant, design with reduced weight when compared to full leather designs and protection from a variety of elements. The toe to lace design provides an exceptional fit and the stability needed for rough terrain or extreme operational conditions. The Danner-exclusive stitch down design allows for an extra wide platform with extreme durability and, should the sole fail, allows for re-crafting when returned to the factory.  For those of you looking for additional options, there is the 6” Patrol model or the all leather Recon model. Similar designs are also available in women’s sizes.

Personal Notion

I personally wear the Acadia and have done so for many years, either in the current design or previous, equally capable, predecessors and they have never failed me. In this day and age of super slick, sneaker-like tactical boots, there are many who view a design such as this as old school or outdated, however, there is a reason that this design has lasted throughout the years – it works! At 66 ounces, many first time wearers find the Acadia to be heavy, especially after having worn many of the newer styles. But there is a time for sneakers and there is a time for boots. When faced with long hours of tough wear forcing you to stand in water, trudge through mud and sand or hike over rough and rocky terrain, many of the lighter modern designs simply do not stand up. In the long run, you will find yourself paying for having picked a lesser design, both in terms of replacement costs and loss of comfort.
