Making a Case for Boots on the Ground in Iraq and Syria

I like to think my country has good intentions and high hopes for positive outcomes when we go to war. Unfortunately, good intentions do not always make for good outcomes. We had good intentions in Iraq and destabilized the country. We had good intentions in Libya and destabilized the country. We also had good intentions in Afghanistan and by helping the Syrian Free Army with similar results. What has been created is hardly anything resembling the free and democratic society we envisioned. I blame it on the way these wars were fought by the politicians and not the way these wars were bravely fought by our troops. The worst thing that has happened out of these conflicts is the voids that were created by them helping to spawn the “plague” known as ISIS.

How bad are ISIS and their disdain they have for everyone who does not share their ideology? They don’t even have a problem attacking their fellow Muslims. Proof of this was their recent brazen attack in Saudi Arabia on one of the holiest sites in the Muslim religion, the Mosque of the Prophet in Medina, Saudi Arabia. They have vowed to destroy the Saudi Arabian government and they tried to take down this holy site (unsuccessfully, but they got VERY close) just to prove a point that the Saudi’s could not protect these sites from them. What makes this attack even bolder is the fact it was done on one of the holiest days on the Muslim religious calendar while the site was overcrowded with worshippers.

BootsIf we don’t do something to stop ISIS in their tracks now, we will soon need boots on the ground in other places like Turkey, Yemen and Saudi Arabia to stop them. If the massive waves of terrorist attacks in France, Belgium and Germany have taught us anything, it’s that no matter how powerful your army is, you have terrorists that can still plan and carry out deadly attacks in your country. We need to eliminate the pestilence that ISIS is before they gain more of a major foothold and sphere of influence in our own cities across the USA too. Their ability to influence disillusioned Muslims across the world is undeniably growing every day.

The cult and gang that ISIS has become under the guise of a religious movement are a plague on humanity and they need to be eliminated; not slowly over time, but stamped out like a fire in one fell swoop. We owe it to the world because we helped create this problem and now we need to help resolve it. The longer we fail to act, the stronger this group becomes and the harder they will be to stop. And it should not just be an American effort either; Europe and the rest of the world now know the effects of having an established and organized ISIS with a base of operations in the world.
