Free Speech Aside…Garland Texas and Punishing Freedom of Speech

The most interesting thing about the bumbling, ISIS-inspired and wretchedly carried out terror attack in Garland, Texas over the weekend was the liberal’s condemnation of the event itself. Not of the two moronic wannabe jihad’s, but of the supposedly Islam bashing event they wanted to shoot up.

Really?

First off, thank God for the Garland Police Officer who shot and killed these two Islamic fanatics. Stupid, homegrown morons who can’t understand that the entire point of the First Amendment is to allow anyone to say what they want, draw mocking cartoons of cult figures or even dunk a holy symbol in urine and charge the public for the “art.”

Second, prayers to the security guard who was shot in the ankle by Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi. If the police had not shot and killed these idiots, the devastation could have been much worse. The exhibition was being held at a school. There were children present.

Third, it is time to stop fooling ourselves. Radical Islam is the problem. It’s not lack of jobs, being oppressed by Christian crusaders a thousand years ago, or any other idiotic but feel-good reason that the left drags into the argument to justify putting hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people at risk.

ProtestFree speech is guaranteed in the First Amendment of our Constitution. Not “free speech unless it offends a religious group” or “free speech unless it is a micro-aggression against a fragile snowflake.” The courts have held that free speech unless it causes a false sense of danger (such as shouting ‘fire’ in a crowded theater when there is no fire) or fighting words (written or spoken words generally expressed to incite hatred or violence).

That is the crux of the matter.

If drawing depictions of Mohammed is to be considered fighting words against radical Islamists, why are caricatures and mocking pictures of Jesus not considered fighting words against radical Christians and suppressed and condemned with the same vigor and hatred by liberals?

The simple answer is that the concept of radical Christians shooting up a school that displays pictures of Jesus is not likely to happen in this country or anywhere else in the world. Other than a few warped sects of Christianity, the religion has outgrown its need to force obedience and compel worship on non-followers.

Islam has not reached that stage.

In most cases, that would be cause for embarrassment and a redefining of the religion to bring its tenets into line with 21st century values. With Islam, not so much. They would much rather drag believers and unbelievers back to the bad old days when everyone feared the church. It is truly unfortunate that the followers of Mohammed will not police their own.

The irrational and destructive aspects of Islam need to be controlled. Moderate Muslims should denounce the radical elements within the church, reject the violent practitioners of terror and clean up their own house. Expecting everyone else to bow down to their values or be killed is wrong, both secularly and religiously.
