Today the Independence Fund announced the 6th annual Lt. Dan Weekend to take place in Charleston, South Carolina on September 18 – 19, 2015. The event will feature a number of events designed to support and honor our nation’s severely wounded service members and their families and caregivers. These events will include a concert featuring Koa, Jonny Lang Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band. The weekend will also host an Independence Bike Ride that will enable severely wounded service members to participate using adaptive mobility cycles and an evening of dining and entertainment at the North Charleston Convention Center.
“The 6th annual Lt. Dan Weekend will be bringing celebrities, musicians and a host of special activities designed to support and honor our nation’s VIPs—our severely wounded veterans and their caregivers,” said Independence Fund Executive Director, Tommy Rieman. “Charleston is the ideal location for this incredible event—and we are thrilled to be hosting it here again in 2015.”
The two day event will commence with a VIP dinner featuring celebrities and other guests of honor to be announced on September 18th at 4:30 PM followed by a concert featuring Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band at 8:30 PM at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center. The event is free for the public, however the Independence Fund has asked for participants to donate to the event or to sponsor the participation of a veteran in the event. The Independence Fund sponsors the entire Lt. Dan Weekend experience for veterans and caregivers including travel, hotels, meals free of charge. To make donations online go to www.ldw6.org.
The next morning, September 19, will feature an Independence Bike Ride that will commence at 7:30 AM and begin and end at the North Charleston Convention Center (route details to be release shortly). The Ride enables veterans who are overcoming a wide range of injuries sustained while in uniform to participate using a number of different types of adaptive mobility cycles. Local bike shops and volunteers will come together to outfit participants and produce the event.
The event will conclude with a dinner, raffle and concert at the N. Charleston Convention Center to support our nation’s wounded heroes featuring entertainment and musical guests that will be announced shortly.
